The workshop looked at water and the environment and took place in the context of the joint science programme “Programme Maroc-Allemand de Recherche Scientifique” (PMARS). Its aim was to analyse the quality of the bi-national cooperation so far and to jointly offer recommendations for the further development of joint research work. The workshop was organised by the DLR project manager for BMBF in close consultation with the hosting Moroccan partner ministry.

14 experts from Germany and 22 from Morocco attended the workshop. Of the project coordinators attending, 62% considered their projects to be successful to very successful. Even though project resources have so far been comparatively limited, significant successes have been achieved with joint publications, Master's and Doctorate projects. During the workshop, new processes for a frictionless and efficient cooperation were agreed; in future, finances from both sides are to increase significantly. It was agreed that a new funding announcement would still be made in 2015.

Since 2010, the two ministries have funded 35 bilateral projects. German and Moroccan institutions work together on the topics of water and environment, climate change, renewable energy and energy efficiency, bio-economics, health research, social sciences and technology transfer.
