The EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR), launched as the second EU macro-regional strategy in 2011, forms the strategic framework for intensified transnational co-operation in the Danube Region. One specific area mentioned in the Action Plan for implementing the EUSDR is the “better coordination of existing national, regional and EU funds to stimulate excellence in research and development, in research areas specific for the Danube Region”.
First pilot activities on national and EU level have started, namely via a dedicated Danube Call by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Science, which in its second edition 2015 is co-financed by Hungary, Serbia and Moldova. Another activity is the EUREKA Danube Call where 11 out of the 14 EUSDR countries have participated and more than 50 proposals have been submitted. Now it is important to further increase transnational R&I activities in the region. Based on the experiences of running initiatives and taking existing instruments as a model different co-operation settings should be developed taking into account the various needs and priorities expressed by the countries.
The aim is to:
- gain insight into the strategic and operational planning in the different EUSDR countries towards participation in and implementation of multilateral activities,
- learn more about the experiences and finding in implementing multilateral activities and derive lessons for activities planned in the Danube Region,
- understand the funding body’s perspective of joint multilateral funding of collaborative R&I projects,
- get feedback related to the ideas, scenarios and activities foreseen to intensify Danube Region transnational cooperation in R&I,
- be able to identify concrete next steps to be taken for different sets of measures in the context of national as well as EU level (joint) funding schemes and programmes. Target groups: Funding bodies from the Danube Region countries (upon invitation only).
