Production Technology

German companies are leaders in sustainable production technologies, and numerous research projects deal with the question of how resource and energy efficiency can be increased. The BMBF supported the internationalisation of sustainable German production technologies in the campaign “Green Production Technologies”.

How to budget sustainably for limited raw materials and energy resources, and how to design production processes even more efficiently - these topics were the focus of the German research and development cooperations funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in selected target countries such as Russia and China from October 2010 to March 2012 under the theme “Green Production Technologies”.

The campaign was aimed at making German competence in sustainable production even more visible globally. Under the brand “Research in Germany – Land of Ideas”, the BMBF presented selected networks, research institutions, universities and companies at specialised international events - such as the International Exhibition on Technology, Machinery and Tools for Materials Processing Technology Metalloobrabotka in Moscow.

The topics represented by the networks ranged from resource-efficient production processes in plasmatechnology to forward-looking solutions for servicing, maintenance and repairs of investment-intensive goods like planes or solar energy facilities to education and further training offers in sustainable production.

In addition to the joint presentations, the networks also organised numerous exploratory trips, conferences and workshops and introduced themselves at other international trade fairs.

Overall, the participating networks were able to obtain almost 1,000 new contacts and to agree numerous cooperations and plan joint activities with international partners.
