The EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR), launched as the second EU macro-regional strategy in 2011, forms the strategic framework for intensified transnational co-operation in the Danube Region. One specific area mentioned in the Action Plan for implementing the EUSDR is the “better coordination of existing national, regional and EU funds to stimulate excellence in research and development, in research areas specific for the Danube Region”.
